Rose

A beautiful young woman pays a dark man a late night visit, with unexpected results. My first exercise in film noir.

This was the midterm project during my first semester at Colorado Film School.

It was a classic student film experience -- I drafted a bunch of friends and coworkers to be the cast and crew. We built our dolly on-site from various things found in the warehouse. We had to shoot the week before being shown how the basic lighting kit works, or ever discussing how to light a scene -- we wound up using two halogen floor lamps, and a 60w clamp light from our living room.

Regardless it came out really well. At the time I was really proud of it, but now when I watch it I can think of a zillion things that would have made it better...

A lot of my student shorts seem to be an introduction -- the bit of the show that plays before the opening credits. If this were true then Rose would introduce a detective story.
