This project was inspired by Gary Larson's "The Far Side" comics -- if you met the 80's in person you know what I'm talking about.
Along the way I was also influenced by the short Sci Fi channel "if" segments where short and bizarre scenarios (not really enough to call them stories) play out in 30 to 60 seconds.
Another data point for you -- I grew up with rodents. My best friend in Jr. High was a white rat. Gerbils. Hamsters. I kept all manner of tiny mammals in my room. And those that didn't bite were delightful.
Which posed the question: what must that be like? Living your life one moment, trapped in a small glass box the next.
Mix this with an obsession with little green men, a handful of old Star Trek references, and the general abduction lore regarding aliens who want to be... shall we say... more intimate than most abductees would prefer and we have something tangible to stick in the script cooker.
The one page script we took to production in April 2007 sets the visual style, and establishes some key camera trickery. There is a much longer script consisting of 10 to 12 short podcast episodes in the works -- if the short garners enough attention I hope to move into production with the whole thing.
If Necessity is the mother of Invention, then Laziness is his deadbeat father. And Greed is his gold-digging wife.
